Hockey Day itself is set for Jan. 20, when the Melville Millionaires and Battlefords North Stars will play an SJHL game in the community of 600.

A banquet featuring Hockey Hall of Famer Grant Fuhr is slated for Jan. 19.

A variety of other hockey games will also be held in Balcarres that weekend, including a Jan. 20 Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League game between the Regina Pat Canadians and Yorkton RawTec Maulers.

Also on Jan. 20, the Melville Prairie Fire will oppose the Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats in a Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League game.

 

On Jan. 21, the Qu’Appelle Valley Hockey League All-Stars will meet the Bethune Bulldogs in a senior hockey game. The Bulldogs are to compete for the 2018 Allan Cup.

Also on Jan. 21, Fort Knox (from Fort Qu’Appelle) is to meet the Saskatchewan Westleys in Prairie Junior Hockey League action.

The Balcarres organizing committee hopes to raise $80,000 that will go toward recent rink improvements.

Tickets, including full weekend passes, are available at the Balcarres Town Office, Broncs Kitchen in the rink, Chatterson Lumber, Pattison Ag, and R.W. & Sons Builders.

In SMAAAHL league play, Luke Mylymok had three goals and two assists Wednesday as the Notre Dame Hounds blanked the Moose Jaw Generals 12-0 in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action at Duncan McNeill Arena in Wilcox.

Mylymok finished the game with 23 goals on the season, tying him with the Regina Pat Canadians’ Jaydon Dureau for the league lead. Dureau was called up by the Portland Winterhawks, who hold his WHL rights, earlier this week.

Notre Dame’s Riley Kohonick made 14 saves for the shutout on Wednesday.
