Randy Cooke made 27 saves in backstopping the Southwest Cougars to a 5-3 win over the Winnipeg Bruins in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action Sunday in Souris.
Trent Sambrook, Josh Wiens and Cory King each had a goal and an assist for the Cougars (4-10-0-0), with Cody Shearer and Callum Fortin netting the other markers.
Ty Naaykens lit the lamp once and picked up a helper on Jason Kotchon’s tally for the Bruins (11-2-1-0).
Meanwhile, Dallon Wilton and Justin Svenson both netted two goals as the Eastman Selects dumped the Yellowhead Chiefs 6-5 in Shoal Lake.
Cole Dekoninck and Rylan Hoffman also scored for the Selects (11-2-1-0); Chad Nychuk led the Chiefs (7-6-0-0) with two goals and a helper.

In Thompson, Brandon exploded for eight third-period goals as it converted six of 15 power-play opportunities in a blowout.
Nolan Ritchie led the Wheat Kings (11-2-0-0) with three goals and three assists, while Drayson Collyer also had a hat trick to go with his helper.
Jerome Linklater assisted on three Norman (0-13-0-1) goals.

In Souris, Dekoninck netted four goals for Eastman and goaltender Justin Powers stopped 33 shots.
Jared McCorrister potted two markers for the Cougars, with Fortin scoring and adding an assist.
Bruins 5 Chiefs 1
In Shoal Lake, Matthew Merkel stopped 27 of the 28 shots fired his way, and Naaykens had two goals and a helper for Winnipeg.
Kotchon, Graeme Patrick and Blake Burr added singles for the Bruins, while Nychuk tallied the lone marker for Yellowhead.
