Puck Drop Weekend is one of the Greater Toronto Hockey League’s newest traditions that kicks off the hockey season with a full slate of regular season games along with an abundance of off-ice entertainment.
Over the Sept. 20 and 21 weekend, more than 300 GTHL teams are all slated to compete in their regular season opener at the event, set for Canlan Ice Sports at York University. Off-ice activities include interactive games, contests and live bands along with a sponsors’ showcase.
Proceeds from Puck Drop Weekend go toward the GTHL Legacy Fund, established in 2011 to provide financial assistance to GTHL families in need.
“Since 2011, GTHL Legacy events and initiatives which include Puck Drop Weekend have raised nearly $400,000 for the GTHL Legacy Fund,” said Dave Lowes, manager, corporate partnerships and communications.
