The MAAAMHL started their regular season last weekend with 14 games played over three days. This league, like many of the same level across the country, started off their season with many high-scoring games – only one game ended with three or fewer goals. The season also saw its first shutout with the Thrashers beating Norman 8-0 on Friday. The league also saw six games go into overtime this weekend, which tells us that the teams are incredibly close in terms of skill, so it should be an exciting season.
Kenora is currently leading the league with two wins and one overtime loss earning them five points for the first weekend, but Eastman is leading the league in goals for with 14, and the Thrashers close behind them with 13. Zach Wytinck of the Southwest Cougars is currently leading the league with six points, and Will Middleton of the Eastman Selects, Brandson Hein of the Winnipeg Thrashers, and Dawson McKenzie also of the Thrashers are tied for second place with five points each. Five players are currently tied for top scorer with three goals apiece, and five different players are tied for the most assists with four each.
Dylan Myskiw of the Winnipeg Thrashers is currently the top goalie with a .981 save percentage having saved 51 of 52 shots in his two games. He is the only goalie so far this season to earn a shutout and has the lowest goals against average of the league at .5 per game.
It is still early in the season, so these stats are likely to change drastically in the next couple of weeks. Be sure to keep up to date with the latest scores and top players.
