Phil Alalouf, the head coach for the Greater Vancouver Canadians, started coaching hockey when his kids started playing about 14 years ago, and he has now spent the past 3 years of his coaching career with the Canadians in the BCMML.
After being a coach for so long he surely has many moments that has made him proud of the teams and players he has coached, and when asked which was his proudest moment he couldn’t pick just one:
“Watching some of the guys get drafted out of bantam when I coached bantam or some of the guys that have actually gone on to play in the WHL or some of the guys that just got drafted into the NHL.”
Alalouf says that the hardest part of being a coach is “getting twenty guys playing the same way,” and that the players need to learn to be patient and believe in the hockey process. He said that one of the most important aspects of hockey is to work hard on and off the ice to achieve your hockey goals.
Coach Alalouf also has his own goal that he is working hard towards, and that is to eventually move on from the BCMML and coach pro somewhere. Although, he also stated that he enjoys coaching in the BCMML and that the league is “a stronger league than it has been in the past” and the teams are a lot more level which makes every game a strong display of skill.
This Ontario-bred Vancouver coach always keeps spirits up in the dressing room for the team as he said “win or lose, [he is] always in a good mood” which surely helps his team keep up their confidence even after a tough game.
