2014 Atlantic Regionals Day One: Saint John Vitos Score Win In First Game
- Submitted by
NEW GLASGOW, NS, April 3, 2014 - Although the Central Ice Pak (NL) took an early lead in the first the Saint John Vitos (NB) came back with four unaswered goals in the second to skate to a 6-4 victory at the Major Midget Atlantics. There is one last game tonight between the host Pictou County Weeks and the Kensington Wild.

Play continues all day Friday and Saturday with the Championship game scheduled for Sunday at 1:00pm.

Although the Vitos outshot the IcePak in both the first and second periods the Ice Pak scored first and mounted a 2-1 lead at the end of 20 minutes although the Vitos had a 19-6 edge in shots.

The Vitos came out in the second and tied the game in the first three minutes of play and then scored three quick goals in the latter part, within three and a half minutes to leave the ice after the second up 5-2.

Central tried to come back in the third and scored just 16 seconds in then added another but couldn't get any closer and when they pulled their goaltender in the final minute it was the Vitos who scored to ice the game.

Jean Michel LeBlanc led the Vitos' charge with three goals - the opening goal, the fourth goal and an unassisted empty netter. Adam Downey, Tyler Copeland and Matthew Gray each scored singles. Curtis Hastings and Colin MacSween each had a pair of assists.

Adam Dawe, Jordan Freake and Jordan Maher each had a goal and an assist with Josh Fitzgerald scoring a single.

Kyle Porter took the win in net with 17 saves. Curtis Barrett made 32 saves on 37 shots for the loss. Noah Weir came in for the final two minutes of the second and all the third making 6 saves.
