2014 Atlantic Regionals Day One: Host Weeks Come From Behind For Win
- Submitted by
NEW GLASGOW, NS, April 3. 2014 - The Pictou County Weeks (Host) came from behind and in the last few seconds of the game scored to win 4-3 over the Kensington Wild (PEI). It was the Wild’s second loss of the day. Tomorrow’s games get underway at 10:00am with the Saint John Vitos (NB) playing the Halifax McDonalds (NS) and continue until 8:00pm.

The Weeks scored first in the game just past the halfway mark of the first as Mark Vokey hit the mark on a power play assisted by Lane Cormier and Matt Sartoris. Before the period came to an end the Wild had knotted the score when Sam Jay was awarded a penalty shot and made it count.

Then Kensington went up by a pair with the only goal of the second and once again it was Jay who drove it home assisted by Michael Evoy and Austin Taylor.

They built a 3-1 lead about six minutes into the third as Kyle Pinksen got an unassisted goal and the Wild held off all comers until the final five minutes of the game when the Weeks stormed back picking up three counters in the final four and a half minutes of the game. Cormier scored on the power play with Vokey assisting to cut the lead to one and a couple of minutes later Cody Johnston found the back of the cage after taking a pass from Cormier to Vokey and on.

As the final minutes ticked away it looked like a short overtime was looming but with just seconds left Vokey once again found the mark and the home town fans went wild.

Vokey was named the Weeks player of the game having scored or assisted on all four goals. Same Jay took home the Player of the Game award for the Wild.

Luke Melanson took the win in net making 31 saves. Bradley Shea made 25 saves in the loss.
