NSEMMHL: Cape Breton Major Midget Teams Winless In Weekend Play**
- Submitted by

Tristan d’Entremont scored twice, including the winner with 1:02 left in overtime. Travis Parker added a single.

Devin MacLaughlin and Randon MacKinnon replied for Cape Breton West.

In goal, Nick Dawe made 35 saves in the win. Dan Leingme steered clear 27 shots in the loss.

Saturday at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre, the Islanders outshot the visiting South Shore Mustangs 33-28, but came up on the short end of a 4-2 decision.

Issac Bridge, Aidan O’Brien, Ryan O’Toole and Jacob Myra scored for the Mustangs while Axel Poirier and Brian MacDougall replied for the Islanders.

Cape Breton West goalie Levi Denny made 24 saves in the losing effort, while Colby Muise made 31 stops for the South Shore.

The Islanders record dropped to 2-6-0-1 for a tie for last place in the eight-team league with the Tradesmen (2-6-1-0).

The Cape Breton Tradesmen also couldn’t find the win column. They were handed a 3-2 setback by the Halifax McDonald’s at the Halifax Civic Centre on Sunday.

Bryceson Musgrave and Brandon Dauphinee struck for Cape Breton in the setback. Keegan Gauthier, Logan MacLellan and Jake Hickey scored for the victors.

Kirklin Allen’s 34 stops ensured the win. Liam MacDonald made 22 saves in the loss.

Saturday, the Tradesmen suffered an 8-1 loss to the Newbridge Academy Gladiators in Dartmouth.

The Gladiators opened the scoring with less than two minutes remaining in the first period before Cape Breton’s Cameron Yates tied the game up just 12 seconds later.

The second period was one the Tradesmen will want to forget in a hurry as they conceded seven goals, including three power-play markers, on 16 Newbridge shots.

Morgan Barron and Johnny Foley led the Gladiators attack with two goals each, while Dylan Burton, Brett Thorne, Alexander Allain and Noah McMullin each scored one goal.

Aaron Mantle made 18 stops in the win. Matthew O’Rielly deflected 31 shots in the loss.

The Islanders play a home-and-home series with the Pictou County Weeks next weekend. The Tradesmen continue play on the road against the South Shore Mustangs.
