PICTOU - With one game left in the regular season the Cape Breton Tradesmen can finish no higher than sixth place in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.
After losing 5-3 to the Weeks Major Midgets on Saturday in Pictou, the Tradesmen (12-18-2-1) have 27 points and cannot catch the fifth-place Cape Breton West Islanders (13-14-4-2) who have 32 points.
However, the Weeks Midgets (23 points with five games to play) and the Valley Wildcats (20 points with four games to play) have a mathematical chance of overtaking the Tradesmen.
The Pictou-based Weeks squad kept their hopes of a higher league finish alive with a third period rally to claim victory.
Julian Makary, Matt Warner, Sam Allison, Ben Higgins and Michael Stuart scored for Weeks, while Brendan Dauphinee scored a pair and Noah Perry added a single marker for Cape Breton.
The Tradesmen's final game of the NSMMHL season will be played today at the Pictou County Wellness Centre at 1 p.m.
