LONDON TO DEFEND TITLE AGAINST TITLE IN GOLD MEDAL GAME!

The London Knights defeated the Lansing Capitals 4-2 with a chance to repeat as Gold Medal Champions of the 2009 MidgetAAACanada.com Cup.
Tanner Smith opened the scoring at 16:33 of the first period on a wobbler that got by Lansing netminder Nick Colarossi to make 1-0 with assists going to Sam Gray and Kyle Stewart.
Matt Fuller of the Knights made it 2-0 on the powerplay at 12:11 of the second period with helpers going to Brendan Woods and Sam Gray. Then Tanner Smith scored his second of the evening at 4:08 to make it 3-0 with the lone assist going to Matt Wildman.
Just before the period ended London widened the lead to 4-0 on a shorthanded goal by Brendan Woods notching his second point of the night.
Lansing was not going down with a fight as they started their attempt at a comeback at 10:33 on a Zachary Dorer powerplay goal from Davis Dekorte and Daniel Swink. Then less than twenty seconds later at 10:16 Daniel Swink netted one of his own from Davis Dekorte and Andre Rakas to make it 4-2.
Both teams battled hard as the contest heated up, but when Lansing pulled their goaltender Matt Wildman scored an empty net goal to seal their fates making the final score 5-2.
In the other semifinal match up the "Battle of Texas" saw the Dallas Ice Jets come back from behind in a fast paced seesaw game against the Texas Tornado that ended in a 7-3 victory.
Both teams were skating hard as Dallas opened the scoring at 17:49 on a goal by Christian McCollum with the lone assist going to Mason Miller.
Then Texas tied it up at 9:50 when Rendon Long took a Zach Hamilton pass and beat Dallas netminder Chris Komma on a shorthanded effort to even it up. The Tornado took the lead at 1:22 of the first when Ryan Holloway scored from Jordan Gnatowsky, but it wouldn't last long.
The Ice Jets tied the game at 12:41 of the second when Tournament Offensive MVP Zach Pizzey scored with helpers going to Tyler Beasley and Mason Miller . Then Dallas took the lead on a goal from Ross Pendergast at 5:43 with Tyler Beasley getting his second assist of the night.
It was all Dallas from there on the scoreboard as they continued padding their lead starting with Sawyer Stinchfield who scored at 15:82 of the third with the assist going to Zach Pizzey.
They made it 5-3 at 12:02 when Chris Seybold put one past Texas goaltender Jake Stafford with the assist going to Christian McCollum.
Christian McCollum scored his second of the night at 11:36 from Mason Miller to make it 6-3, and Sam Leslie scored the final goal at 6:21 with assists going Garret Peterson and Sayer Stinchfield to finish with a perfect and impressive 4-0 record in round robin and 2-0 playoff record.
Tomorrow will prove to be a very exciting Canada vs. U.S. final at 5:00pm at the Windsor Federal Credit Union Centre right after the sold out OHL Windsor Spitfires' game. The sold out crowd at the OHL game will be invited to stay and watch the Gold Medal game which will surely make for an exciting atmosphere.
The Lansing Capitals will repeat in their bid for a Bronze Medal facing Texas at 10:00am.
