The defending Newfoundland and Labrador Major Midget Hockey League champion Central IcePak managed to pick up just a single point against the St. John’s Privateers to open its 2014-’15 season.
The IcePak lost a narrow 3-1 decision to the Privateers on Saturday evening at the Gander Community Centre, as Pierce Halliday, Max French and Joel Bishop scored for the winners. Jake Abbott had the lone marker for the IcePak.
Even though the defending champs lost 6-5 in a shootout on Sunday, they picked up its first point of the season, as captain Nick Fitzgerald assisted on all five of Central’s goals. Kyle Regular ended up with a hat trick for the IcePak with singles coming from Scottie Greene and Ryan Ricketts. Bishop had a pair for the Privateers, with singles by Brandon Lucas, Brandon McIssac and Halliday.
