BAY ROBERTS Getting a sweep on the team’s first road trip of the regular season made for a comforting ride home for the Kings Sunday.
Jalen Gillard and Brady Griffin-Hefford had a goal and an assist to lead the Dennis GM Western Kings to a 7-1 lead over the Tri-Pen Osprey Sunday morning at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts.
The Kings opened the two-game series with a 6-1 win over the Osprey Saturday night in the first meeting of the two Newfoundland and Labrador Major Midget Hockey League franchises.
Mateo Short, Ryan Roche, Ryan Gillam, Brandon Sexton and Iain Pilgrim rounded out the offensive attack for the Kings in support of puckstopper Ian Woolfrey Sunday.
Nathaniel Duffett was the lone marksman for the Osprey.
On Saturday night, Jalen Gillard had two goals and big netminder Luke House had 46 saves to highlight a 6-1 triumph for the Kings at the Bay Arena.
Jamie Penney, Brady Griffin-Hefford, Brandon Sexton and Nick Childs also scored for the Kings.
Cass Warren was the only guy to beat House at the other end of the rink.
Meanwhile, in other action, the St. John’s Privateers defeated the Central IcePak 6-5 in a shootout Sunday and eked out a 3-1 win Saturday night as the two teams clashed in their first meeting of the season at the Gander Community Centre over the weekend.
