The SMAAAHL played nine games last weekend, and it was definitely an exciting start to the regular season. Most games were high-scoring with only two games ending with three or less goals combined, one of which was a shoot-out win. The league also saw their first shutout in the first weekend with the Moose Jaw Generals defeating the Saskatoon Blazers 4-0.
After the first weekend the Battleford Stars and the Saskatoon Contacts are tied for first place with four points each as both teams won both of their games this weekend. The Contacts are currently leading the league in goals for with eight and goals for / goals against difference with +6. The Yorkton RawTec Maulers and the Prince Albert Mintos are tied for first in the league in goals for average with 6.
Adam Dawe of the Notre Dame Hounds is currently leading the league in points with one goals and three assists earning him four points. Colby Haugen of the Saskatoon Contacts is leading in goals with three goals in his two games, including two scored on a powerplay. There is a four-way tie for league leading assists between Adam Dawe, Drayson Skulmoski, Dino Antoniadis, and Dawson Bacon all with three assists each.
Great job to all players on the first regular season weekend, and good luck in the remainder of the season. Remember to keep up to date with all the SMAAAHL stats, and cheer on your favourite team in person next weekend!
