BCMML: Potomak To Affiliate With Valley West Hawks
- Submitted by
The BC Major Midget League (MML) is pleased to announce that Amy Potomak (Aldergrove, BC) will be rostered as an affiliate player with the Valley West Hawks for the remainder of the 2016-2017 season.

A four (4) time member of Team BC, Potomak was recently named Most Valuable Player of the National Women’s U18 Championship in Regina, SK, where she helped lead BC to a bronze medal. Potomak has also played on the international stage, being named to Team Canada’s Women’s U18 squad for the 2015 and 2016 IIHF Women’s World U18 Championship. She also participated in Hockey Canada’s Fall Festival for Canada’s National Women’s Team.

A captain with the Pacific Steelers of the Junior Women’s Hockey League (JWHL), Potomak has tallied 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) in just 12 games. She has committed to the University of Minnesota for the 2017-2018 season, where her sister Sarah is currently the team’s leading scorer and the reigning Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Year.

Potomak is anticipated to make her MML debut in the Hawks’ series against the South Island Royals, December 10 – 11, 2016. She joins a small group of female players to have played in the MML – only Kaleigh Fratkin (Vancouver North West Giants, 2009-2010) and Kimberly Newell (Kootenay Ice, 2011-2012) have previously done so.

This isn’t the first experience the Hawks have had with female talent, as Canadian women’s national team forward Meghan Agosta regularly practiced with the team leading up to the 2016 IIHF Women’s World Championship and continues to train with them in preparation for the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Said Valley West General Manager Rob Evers, “We’re excited that Amy has chosen to affiliate with our team this season. She’s an elite talent and the Major Midget League will give her a good platform to prepare for Team Canada's upcoming competitions."
