2014 Atlantic Regionals Day One: Halifax McDonalds Open Atlantics With Win

NEW GLASGOW, PEI, April 3, 2014 - The Halifax McDonalds (NS) scored once in the first and added a pair in the third to take the first game of the Major Midget Atlantics 3-1 over the Kensington Wild (PEI) at the Pictou County Wellness Centre Thursday afternoon. 

Games continue with a pair today and start again Friday at 19am. The Championship game is scheduled for 1pm Sunday. All games are webcast. 

Ethan Marsh scored an unassisted goal just over four minutes into the game and after a second period when neither team scored, Morgan Nauss took advantage of a power play to give the Macs a 2-1 lead before the final frame was a minute old. He was assisted by Dillon Boucher. 

The Wild fought hard to get back in the game and two minutes later finally found the back of the net on a hard shot by Riley Gallant, assisted by team captain Abel Arsenault. However the Macs were determined to win and before the third was halfway over they had regained their two goal lead as Jordan Bezanson took a loose puck and drove it home, catching the Wild’s goaltender by surprise. 

Justin Ritcey was the winning goalie making 30 saves. Bradley Shea made 42 saves in the loss.

Players of the game were Dillon Boucher for the Macs and Bradley Shea for the Wild.

NOTE: Cameron Visser, who had backstopped the Wild through most of their playoffs, was injured in an accident this past weekend and is unable to play at the Atlantics.
