2016 TELUS Cup Atlantic Regional Champions: NBPEIMML Saint John Vitos (NB)*

Ben Reid netted the winning goal 52 seconds into the extra session. Alex Hambly also scored for for the Vitos, with St. John’s native Ian Smallwood drawing an assist on the play. The goal came with only 10 seconds left in regulation time and goalie Jake Stewart on the bench for an extra attacker.

 

Matthew Warner scored for Nova Scotia earlier in the third period.

Despite the loss, Nova Scotia will still play in the national Telus Cup as the Atlantic representative.

It was a disappointing tournament for the two St. John’s teams. The host Privateers and Newfoundland representative Maple Leafs both finished 1-3.  

The Privateers lost 3-1 to Nova Scotia, 7-1 to the Leafs and 8-1 to P.E.I. Their only win came against the Vitos by a 6-4 count.

As for the Maple Leafs, they were shut out three times — 4-0 to Nova Scotia, 3-0 to P.E.I. and 4-0 to New Brunswick.
