TIMMINS - In their final game before the GNML’s Christmas break, the Timmins Majors knocked off the Nickel Capital Wolves 4-1.

After licking their wounds over the Christmas holidays, the Wolves wasted little time exacting their revenge on the Majors.

After blanking the Majors 6-0 Friday night, the Wolves scored a 7-1 decision Saturday night.

Saturday night’s contest was actually a little closer than the final score might indicate, at least for the first 30 minutes.

James Colburne’s first goal of the season staked the Wolves to a 1-0 first period lead.

Adam Bertrand increased the home side’s lead to a pair of goals when he scored his 10th goal of the season at the 5:28 mark of the second period, but the Majors got that one back five minutes later when Austin Holmes replied with an unassisted marker, also his 11th goal of the campaign.

Joel Mongeon added a power-play marker, his ninth goal of the season, with 4:21 remaining in the middle frame, however, to make it a 3-1 hockey game.

Joe Mazur scored a pair of goals, with the first coming on the power play, to give him 16 on the season, six minutes apart in the first half of the third period to break things wide open.

Bertrand followed with his second of the night and 11th of the season five minutes later and Thomas Vlahos found the back of the net for his 17th goal of the season 30 seconds later to make the final score 7-1.

Alex Vendette went the distance in net for the Wolves to record the win, while Jordan Yaremchuk was between the pipes for the Majors and was tagged with the loss.

WOLVES 6 MAJORS 0

Vendette picked up his second shutout of the season as the Wolves blanked the Majors 6-0 Friday night.

Hunter Chiblow’s ninth goal of the season, at the 2:49 mark of the opening period, proved to be the game-winner.

Mongeon’s eighth goal of the season, a power-play marker, increased the Wolves’ advantage to a pair of goals midway through the frame.

Patrick Musico added a power-play marker, his eighth goal of the season, early in the second period and Carson McMillan followed with an unassisted marker, his 19th goal of the season, less than three minutes later to increase the home side’s advantage to 4-0.

Vlahos netted his 16th goal of the season early in the third period and then Mazur potted his 14th goal of the season to close out the scoring and make the final 6-0 in favour of the Wolves.

Dylan Dallaire went the distance in net for the Majors and was tagged with the loss.

The Majors closed out their three-game weekend road trip by taking on the Trappers in North Bay on Sunday, but details from that contest were not available at press time.
