Etobicoke, ON - We are now well underway into the TELUS Cup Central Regional tournament as all 5 teams have played a pair of games. Through 2 days we have 2 teams left with perfect records while only a single team left without at least a point.
In the opening game of Day 2 the Don Mills Flyers jumped out to a quick lead over the Soo Thunderbirds in the 1st.
They added to their lead in the 2nd and held a 4-1 lead with 5 minutes to play in the period. However the Thunderbirds were not going to go down without a fight.
Zach Senecal got his 2nd of the game last in the period to make it a 4-2 game through 40 minutes.
In the final frame the Thunderbirds completed the comeback and pulled even with just 1:16 remaining in the game.
The game finished at a 4-4 draw giving both teams much needed points.
Don Mills moved to 0-0-2 while the Thunderbirds picked up their 1st point of the week and improved to 0-1-1.
In game 2 of the day the host Toronto Nationals took on the Ottawa Senators.
This game belonged to the Nationals right from the drop of the puck as they dominated play and took a 4-1 lead into the 1st intermission.
The second period featured another 3 goals meaning it was 7-1 through 2 periods. The Senators job one back in the third, however Toronto then put 3 more in the Ottawa net making it a 10-2 final.
Lucas Breault came up big with 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points in the game, while Andrew Breda recorded a hat trick.
The Nationals now sit in 1st spot with a 2-0-0 record while the Senators remain pointless at 0-2-0.
In the final game the Whitby Wildcats and London Jr Knights tangled, and for the second straight day the Wildcats came out attacking on all cylinders.
They jumped in front 2-0 just 9 minutes int he came, however a short handed Jr Knights goal cut the lead to 2-1 after the opening frame.
The Wildcats got the lone goal of the middle period and led 3-1 going into the 3rd period.
The Jr Knights weren't backing down pulling the game to 3-2 just 5 minutes in however a late empty net goal from Whitby sealed the game for the Wildcats.
Whitby now sits at 2-0-0 while the Jr Knights fall to 0-1-1.
