AMHL: Hurricanes Streak Snapped
- Submitted by

Lethbridge midget AAA Hurricanes 19-game unbeaten streak came to an end on Saturday.

The Hurricanes were edged 3-2 by the Knights of Columbus Pats during Alberta Midget Hockey League play in Edmonton.

However, the Canes quickly got back in the win column 24 hours later thanks to a 4-2 win over the Fort Saskatchewan Boston Pizza Rangers Sunday in Fort Saskatchewan.

The scoresheet for Sunday’s game wasn’t available at press time.

The win and the loss put the Hurricanes at 17-2-3 and in first place in the Chrysler Division, one point behind the 17-3-2 Calgary Buffaloes.

That also keeps the Hurricanes and Buffaloes in first and second overall in the AMHL.

On Saturday, the Canes trailed 2-0 heading into the third period and scored twice in the final period, but the Pats answered with a third period tally that stood up as the winner.

Daniel Anton scored three minutes into the third to cut the Pats lead to 2-1, but the hosts went up 3-1 3:38 later.

Zack Stringer pulled Lethbridge back within one with 4:42 left in regulation, but that’s as close as the Canes got.

Carl Tetachuk made 28 saves for the Hurricanes in the loss.

The Hurricanes return home Saturday when the Sherwood Park J.Ennis Kings pay a visit to Nicholas Sheran Arena at 3 p.m.

The Canes return to the road Sunday and wrap up the 2017 portion of their schedule when they head to Calgary to face the Flames.
