The St. John's Privateers and Maple Leafs met for two games this weekend, and both were very well played with exciting end to end action. Unfortunately for the Privateers, they came out on the losing end of both games.
Saturday night the Leafs used their powerplay to score three goals in the first period and they were able to hang on for a 3-2 win. Matt Templeman, Liam Kennedy and Kyle McGrath had the Leafs goals. Max French scored twice for the Privateers in the second period.
Zach Gauvereau stopped 17 shots to pick up the win, while Chris Smith made 30 saves in the loss.
Sunday, the Leafs scored once in each of the three periods en route to a 3-1 victory. Kennedy in the first, Matt Smith in the second and Andrew Barron with an empty net goal late in the game, did the damage. French had the lone Privateers goal in the third period.
MacKenzie Janes made 25 saves to get the win, while Chris Kirkham had 30 saves in the loss.
The Privateers head to Gander next weekend to meet the Central IcePak in two games.
