As the season start date is fast approaching teams are warming up in the pre-season exhibition games. While these games do not count in terms of player or team statistics for the season, they are definitely a good way to try out new players and evaluate the competition.
Coaches and players will be keeping an eye on what teams, and specifically what players, excel in the pre-season, and which teams do not. This information will help them develop their game plans for the first few matches against each team.
This pre-season is about halfway over, and already the BCMML is seeing a pattern of wins and losses.
The Valley West Hawks are currently undefeated in their five exhibition games, and they have also played the highest scoring games of the pre-season scoring no less than three goals per game with an average of 4.8 goals per game.
However, this trend is not new for the Hawks - last season they scored three or more goals in thirty-one of their forty games.
What is looking like a new trend, however, is the low-scoring losses for the Vancouver NW Giants. They consistently won in high-scoring games last season, but this pre-season is looking like a completely different team.
They have only won two of their nine exhibition games, and in five of those games scored less than three goals.
It will be interesting to see if these trends continue into the latter half of the pre-season and the regular season. Pre-season ends September 14th and regular season starts September 19th, so remember to keep updated on all the scores and trends.
