The NSMMHL regular season started last week on September 16th, and it is already looking to be an exciting season. After the first week, the Steele Subaru Major Midgets and the Cape Breton West Islanders are tied for first both having won their first two games against the Cape Breton Tradesmen and the Valley CIBC Wood Gundy Wildcats, respectively.
There are currently eight players tied for the title of leading scorer with two goals each, but leading the league in assists so far is Craig Ryan of the Cape Breton West Islanders and Alexander Allain from the Steele Subaru Major Midgets with three assists each last week. Leading the league in points, however, is Jason Bollivar from Charlie’s Pizza South Shore Mustangs with four points – two goals and two assists.
The league saw its first shutout of the season on Sunday with rookie goalie Colten Ellis from the Cape Breton West Islanders shutting out Valley CIBC Wood Gundy Wildcats 4-0. That is an excellent start to Colten’s major midget career, and we will see if he is able to keep up with his first performance throughout the season. Another noteworthy goalie so far is Aidan Hosein from the Steele Subaru Major Midgets who was the only goalie to play in both games and managed a 93% save percentage with his 3-2 and 7-2 wins.
Good luck to all teams throughout the rest of the regular season!
